What a crazy week! This is not what we expected we'd be doing when we arrived exhausted into port. There was only a few hours after waking up and I was back out in the Atlantic.
Can I just say the refugee situation is a very complex one and between the 3 of us, I mean Lenny is still learning what one plus two is so he hasn't been real helpful at all to be honest...... it's very difficult for us to cover every angle. I am aware this topic can be divisive but I hope it encourages you to discuss it with your family and friends and even people who don't share the same opinions as you. There's no one simple solution but if this video is able to raise awareness and encourage people to research and discuss the situation, then that's a step in the right direction.

What this video proves to me is that neither of these two are very intelligent and/or educated. They are also hypocrites who don't live and pay taxes in any one country but except people to house, feed, educate these non-citizens for years. These economic migrants have some of the highest unemployment rates in Europe for years. They are a burden on a system already burdened by COVID-19, high unemployment, high taxes, etc. In 2020, the estimated youth unemployment rate in Spain was at 31.13 percent. Portugal youth unemployment rate for 2019 was 18.45%, a 1.87% decline from 2018. Greece has the highest youth unemployment rate in the European Union as of May 2019 with a rate of 40.4% of youths between 15-24 unemployed.

Superb video, well done guys. You’re dead right about what’s going on in the Med. too. We interviewed the crew of an Italian rescue ship in Venice this week, they were impounded 6 times by the Italian authorities last year. What’s actually happening is Europe have given millions of Euros to the Libyan authorities to patrol their shores and push back migrants to camps in Libya. Migrant boats are having to take all sorts of risks with longer routes in the Med as well as the Atlantic and its coming down to the NGO rescue boats to help migrant boats packed with people way out to sea. It seems the authorities want to wash their hands of the problem and claim they’ve dealt with it by paying the Libyans to clean up, that just isn’t working! The Italian NGO is called Mediterranea, they would certainly be worthy of your go fund me appeal, you can see them in the next episode of Sailing Fair Isle on Thursday, do have a look and see what you think. Thanks, and again very well done for highlighting this.

Also, democracy is based on fraternity, and fraternity means help anyone, and at last, more people able to work means more commerce and more oportunities. Good you are doing something that makes us think. But no easy answer. Clearly from your interviews most are seeking better life. So most are economic refugees. Let's open all borders? Or you could make personal choice to sell your boat, pay more taxes to support them in country you pay tax, or sell and fund African startups, your boat 250ķ - 500ķ would fund a lot of local small businesses. Your choice, helping them arrive into Canaries may make you feel better and doesn't cost you much. As I said, no easy answers. I'm a white university educated economic refugee I.e came from NZ to UK for economic improvement (and to see the world) so i recognise I'm a very lucky immigrant and mostly by birth and colour i.e. luck. Best hope is we help with in-country stability and development but no easy answers.

I have watched your channel for a very long time but you’ve switched from an adventure channel to one involved in a contentious political subject. I would state that you are acting more as a people trafficker as opposed to a rescue mission. It would only be a rescue mission if you found them say 100 miles past the island as opposed to on route. I suspect 95% are actually migrants as opposed to refugee. So sad to see one of my favourite channels go down hill and hyper irresponsible on exposing your family to Covid doh.

By kind fate I met Elayna, Riley and Lennie twice away from any crowd of well wishers and my age-wisened senses told me these are kind, thoughtful souls that want to do the right thing. Yes, they’re commercially driven, they’ve created a way to supported themselves and good for them. That’s not what this was about I don’t think. They are using their connection to 1.5 million people to bring needed attention to a worldwide disaster that is conveniently covered up and ignored. If those followers each gave $1 to help the people suffering a small improvement in their situation for just a moment, that’s honorable and deserving praise. Keep up the good work E, R and L! Soapbox Warning! Open ALL borders and let the prosperous countries of the world absorb those courageous people escaping corrupt government criminals stealing their lives from them. It’s happened over and over and it can still work. America was built by immigrants and is still prospering because its continuation. Open the borders.

There’re many people migrating from africa to europe through Morocco, you guys can sail to detroit of Gibaltar.. ( Morocco- Spain ) that Zone is a shortcut to Europe so many people choose it. Great video by the way ! Thumbs up 👍
